Twinning

Ross‑on‑Wye is proudly twinned with Betzdorf (Germany), Condé‑sur‑Noireau (France) and Namutumba (Uganda), fostering rich cultural, educational and community exchanges.

Ross-on-Wye is partnered with three towns. They each have an active twinning association and anyone can join.

Condé and Betzdorf were twinned following school exchanges in the late seventies and early eighties. After a visit in 1993 by the Bishop of Busoga links were forged between Ross and Namutumba and the towns were formally twinned in 2007.

Condé-sur-Noireau — France

Ross-on-Wye has been twinned with the small town of Condé-sur-Noireau in Northern Normandy for nearly 40 years. Set in an agricultural area, it is well known for its cider, Calvados and cheeses. Every other year over 50 families from Ross or from Condé make the trip across the Channel to spend a week-end practicing their – often very rudimentary – language skills and getting to know their hosts, their town, their culture and their food and drink!

Betzdorf — Germany

Betzdorf is a small town on the River Sieg in the Westerwald. Originally the home of Wolf Tools, the first connection to Ross was when Roderich Wolf came to Ross to start up a business selling Wolf Tools. School exchanges followed, a charter was signed and the rest is history. Trips to Betzdorf are always great fun, with good food and drink, plenty to see and do and the challenge for our hosts in communicating in English! The visits take place at Whitsun and anyone wishing to join the association should get in touch.

Namutumba – Uganda

Namutumba is a market town with a population of 20,000. Several groups have become involved with the twinning, in particular John Kyrle High School and the Ross Lions. Each summer a group of sixth form students from JKHS visit for an experience of a lifetime.
