INVITATION TO TENDER
Christmas Lights in Ross-on-Wye Town Centre 2026-2029
Ross-on-Wye Town Council is the local authority for the parish of Ross-on-Wye
including Ross Rural Parish and is committed to delivering high quality services
which balance the performance, quality and value to the client with the cost of the
provision.
The Christmas lights and trees (situated at the Market House and Brookend Street)
in the town centre are provided by the Town Council to decorate the town over the
Christmas festive season with the aim of attracting residents and visitors to the town
centre to support retail trade. The scheme has a high profile in the town and is well
received by the public and businesses.
The current contract has come to an end and Ross-on-Wye Town Council will be
seeking an experienced and qualified contractor for a three-year contract
commencing from 2026.
The contract will include the installation, removal, storage, maintenance and
refurbishment (if necessary) of the Christmas lights and Christmas tree lights and the testing of eyebolts/catenary wires during this period. In the first year of the
contract it will also include the collection of the lights from the previous contractor.

Footpath Officer vacancy
Ross-on-Wye Town Council is looking for volunteer Footpath Officers.
The Parish Footpath Officer (PFO) plays a vital role in surveying, maintaining, and enhancing the Public Rights of Way (PROW) network within Ross-on-Wye.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to play a practical role in keeping local footpaths accessible for the community.
The volunteer would carry out regular surveys of public rights of way in the allocated parish in accordance to the PROW protocols and report any issues on the network to Herefordshire Council via their website, whilst liaising with Ross-on-Wye Town Council to keep them informed of activities through a regular report to the Amenities Sub-Committee meetings. The role would be hands-on and will involve practical tasks such as installing and maintaining waymarkers and signage, cutting back overgrown hedging and vegetation, and helping to clear paths where light obstructions have occurred.
Where more significant issues are identified on the network, such as damaged structures or blocked routes, these will be reported to Herefordshire Council through their online reporting system.

Tree warden vacancy
Ross-on-Wye Town Council is seeking volunteer Tree Wardens.
The Tree Wardens play a vital role in surveying and reporting on trees in the Parish.
This role would suit someone with an interest in trees and the local environment who would like to act as a knowledgeable point of reference for Ross-on-Wye Town Council.
The role will involve reporting on the condition of trees within the parish and highlighting any concerns or emerging issues to the Town Council so that they can be considered.
The volunteer may also provide informal advice or guidance to support council initiative.
