Who should switch on Ross-on-Wye’s Christmas Lights this year?
16 September 2026

Ross-on-Wye Town Council is once again looking for someone special from the local community to have the honour of switching on the town’s Christmas Lights.
The festive season will officially get underway in Ross-on-Wye on Sunday 29th November, when the town centre’s Christmas Lights are switched on as part of a full day of festive entertainment at the Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre.
Organised by Ross-on-Wye Town Council and sponsored by Westons Cider, the Christmas Fayre will once again bring Broad Street to life, with more than 80 stalls offering a fantastic selection of Christmas gifts, handmade items, food and drink. Visitors can also enjoy a programme of festive entertainment, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
The highlight of the day will be the Christmas Lights switch-on at 4.30pm, when a member of the local community will be invited to officially turn on the lights in front of the crowds gathered in the town centre.
The Town Council is now inviting nominations from members of the public for someone who they feel deserves this special honour.
Perhaps you know someone who has given their time to support the local community, gone above and beyond to help others, made a difference to the town, or simply deserves a moment in the spotlight. The Council wants to hear about them.
To nominate someone, please email the name of your chosen person and explain why you feel they deserve to switch on the Christmas Lights, in no more than 100 words, to admin@rosstc-herefordshire.gov.uk.
The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Friday 9th October 2026.
Please note that the nominated person must be available on Sunday 29th November at 4.30pm and be willing to switch on the Christmas Lights in front of the large crowd attending the event.
The successful person will be selected by Ross-on-Wye Town Council, the event organisers, and the Christmas Lights switch-on sponsor, JEH Laundry Services.
