Pedestrian Feasibility Study – Local Business Survey
11 February 2025

Herefordshire Council is working in partnership with Ross-on-Wye Town Council to better understand the potential for pedestrianisation of Ross-on-Wye High Town. The project was first identified in the Ross-on-Wye Investment Plan (2021) and aims to support increased footfall for a stronger, resilient town centre.
The feasibility study is supported by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund. A team of specialist consultants led by Keith Thomas of PER Consulting Ltd has been appointed to undertake further research into the range of options for full or part pedestrianisation and to assess the pros and cons of each option.
A spokesperson said: “The main area under consideration is Broad Street between High Street and New Street. Whilst we especially wish to hear from businesses in this area we are also open to views of businesses elsewhere in the town centre.”
No decision has been taken yet on whether to proceed with town centre pedestrianisation. The study will provide vital insight to the realistic economic benefits and wider challenges to be resolved. This will then feed into further discussions between Ross-on-Wye Town Council, Herefordshire Council and potential future funding partners.
As part of the research, the project team is keen to understand the views of local businesses who may be directly affected by potential pedestrianisation.
A short survey has been prepared to help capture feedback which can be accessed on-line via the link HERE. Alternatively copy this reference into your browser, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XT3LT5F
The project team would appreciate comments by the end of February 2025 if at all possible when the survey will close. If you wish to add any further information or discuss matters in more detail then please contact the consultant team by email keith@perconsulting.co.uk
