Could you make a difference to the safety of the roads in Ross-on-Wye?
24 October 2023

Early in 2022 we put out an appeal for volunteers for a Community Speed Watch scheme with many people coming forward, sadly due to unforeseen delays with West Mercia Police this has yet to get off the ground. However, the process is now moving along and we are once again appealing for volunteers to come forward for training, with the aim this will be up and running within the next few months.
Community Speed Watch is a community driven road safety initiative, coordinated by West Mercia Police but managed and run by volunteers in the community. It involves trained volunteers from the community monitoring the speeds of vehicles with approved, hand-held speed measurement devices. Where vehicle speeds are found to be inappropriate, a letter is sent to the registered keeper by the police with the aim of encouraging them to reduce their speed when driving in the future.
Ross-on-Wye Town Council feels that the town could significantly benefit from a Community Speed Watch group and are looking for volunteers who would be keen to be part of it. Although the council would not run the group we would offer our full support. To register your interest please email admin@rosstc-herefordshire.gov.uk Please note the start date is depending on the necessary checks conducted by West Mercia Police.
