Community Speed Watch Scheme launched in Ross-on-Wye

Back in 2022 Ross-on-Wye Town Council ran an appeal for volunteers for a Community Speed Watch scheme, which resulted in many people coming forward. Following a delay with West Mercia Police the scheme is finally up and running with volunteers taking part in their first speed watch yesterday evening, Wednesday 15th May.

Community Speed Watch is a community driven road safety initiative, coordinated by West Mercia Police but managed and run by volunteers from the community. It involves trained volunteers from the community monitoring speeds of vehicles with approved, hand-held speed measurement devices. Where vehicle speeds are found to be inappropriate, a letter is sent to the registered keeper by the police with the aim of encouraging them to reduce their speed when driving in the future.
